Learn to ride a motorcycle – no experience required! If you’re ready for motorcycle riding lessons, there’s no better place to learn than Hellbender Harley-Davidson. We provide the bike, you provide the gear. The information below will answer your questions. Read it in its entirety before you register.
Ages 16 and Up. If a student is under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must sign a waiver form for the student to participate in the course. Students under the age of 18 who successfully complete the Basic Rider Course, earn a 90-day Motorcycle License Test Waiver. However, to get their license, the student must be at least 17 years of age during the 90-day waiver period. Students must also complete Joshua’s Law Requirements.
Note: A Harley-Davidson Motorcycle will be furnished for your use during the course by Southern Devil Harley-Davidson
The H-D® Riding Academy® New Rider Course follows the proven curriculum of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation® (MSF) Basic RiderCourse tailored for beginner riders or those returning to the sport. There is an online “eCourse” to be completed before your first day of class.
Learn about different types of motorcycles, their controls and operation, and the basic skills needed to prepare you for riding on the range. Interact with other students and Coaches to create a strategy for riding in traffic and deal with critical situations. We discuss how alcohol and other drugs may affect your operation of a motorcycle. Tour the dealership and get an inside look into the Harley-Davidson® lifestyle. We let you trial fit different motorcycles and explain why proper riding gear is not only designed for style and comfort, but also protection.
During two days of range time, you'll start slowly and become familiar with the controls, clutch, and throttle. Then it's on to straight-line riding, turning, shifting, and stopping. Next, progress to advanced street skills, slow-speed tight maneuvers and swerving techniques. Motorcycles are ridden on a MSF certified range closed to the public.
The course schedule consists of 3 days of instructional education; one full day of classroom at Hellbender in Marietta, and two days of riding on the Range at Southern Devil Harley Davidson in Cartersville.
The year-round schedule consists of 24 hrs instructional time over 3 full days. At Hellbender H-D, our Coaches spend more time with students than most other off-site training classes receive, giving you an opportunity to be more successful in your learning-to-ride journey.
Attendance every day, all day, is MANDATORY. Because of State requirements, you cannot miss any portion of class, arrive late, or leave early. There are no refunds or rescheduling within 7 days of your class date. (See full disclosure under 'TUITION' below.)
Our Coaches are real motorcycle riders who are Motorcycle Safety Foundation RiderCourse Certified RiderCoaches with additional education and training through Harley-Davidson® University. There are two coaches provided for all group classes of more than six.
What will I need to register online?
A valid automobile driver's license and a Visa, MasterCard or Debit card.
Do I need any special gear?
You'll need to bring the following each day:
Tuition is $299 and is required when you register to reserve your seat. DO NOT WAIT TO REGISTER - classes fill quickly!
WAITLIST: Clicking on WAITLIST to register does NOT register you in the class. Each class has a waitlist of 3 people, but do not rely on this. Register in a class with an opening to ensure your spot. We can always move you to an earlier class should the opportunity arise.
CANCELLATION/RESCHEDULING POLICY: There will be no refunds for ANY cancellation or request to reschedule a class made by a student within 7 full days of the first day of class. For example, classes starting on a Friday MUST be canceled or rescheduled no later than 6:00 PM on the Friday preceding the class in order to be eligible for refund or rescheduling. Class fee is forfeited if a student is a NO SHOW or attempts to cancel or reschedule within 7 days of their class start date.
Motorcycling is not for everyone. Some students may discover this for themselves during the course. At other times, struggling or uncertain students may be counseled out and unable to continue in the riding sessions. They are welcome to finish the classroom portions with the understanding that they will not receive a class completion card or a license waiver and are welcome to retake the entire course at a later date at the regular tuition price.
Coaches are required to maintain the safety of all participants. Any student creating an unsafe condition, as determined by the Coaches, will not be allowed to continue in the course.
There are NO REFUNDS for any reason or condition of non-completion of the course. You are welcome to retake the entire course at a later date at the regular tuition price.
Our Riding Academy staff will contact you shortly to start the journey towards your goal.
